The Insufferables

A certain space-faring billionaire came up in conversation the other day, and my friend said, "I don't think there's anyone I find more insufferable."

The night before, I mentioned Spotify and a relative said, "I remember you said that you can't stand [obscenely paid direct-to-podcast-babble-bro], and I couldn't figure out why you would have that strong of a reaction to anyone. Then I heard a clip of him." That launched us into a conversation about how he pretends to be enlightened and intelligent, and his audience eats it up because it makes them feel smart, too.

Instead of reading, questioning, and developing thinking ability, people latch onto these blustery conmen and adopt whatever ridiculous viewpoints they espouse or entertain. It's easier than putting in the work to become a reasoning and discerning person.

Lack of curiosity and extreme intellectual laziness aggravate me beyond belief.
